Elena Renker | Jar with lid | Kurinuki
Elena Renker, a New Zealand based potter, does not aim for perfection in her ceramics, on the contrary infact! She believes that imperfections make her pottery come alive, make them easier to relate to, make them more human. Nature’s perfection lies within its own symmetry.
This piece represents one of Elena’s iconic styles, hand moulded with a hollow inside then sliced off to create the faceted exterior and finished with a Shino* glaze. A stand alone piece with functionality, if needed.
*Shino glaze originates from the late 16th century in the Mino region of Japan where it’s loosely thrown pots and spontaneous decorations were perfectly suited to the wabi-sabi aesthetics of the ruling Zen Buddhist tea masters of that era.
