Jody Martin | Shimizu | Japanese Cup
Jody Martin has been working with clay and ceramics for many years initially with handbuilding but in recent years she has focussed on her throwing skills using her Bernard Leach kick-wheel. Her current work is influenced by the aesthetics of Japanese and Korean ceramics – refined but full of character. The human touch is evident with thumb and finger imprints and hand carved bases. This makes them tactile and comfortable.
Due to firing techniques she has developed some delightful glazes.
‘Shimizu’ – turquoise/green glaze
This gorgeous glaze has a matt finish that moves and catches as it descends the cup with beautiful pooling at the bottom.
(shimizu means’ clear water’)
