Jody Martin | Yozora | Japanese Cup
Jody Martin has been working with clay and ceramics for many years initially with handbuilding but in recent years she has focussed on her throwing skills using her Bernard Leach kick-wheel. Her current work is influenced by the aesthetics of Japanese and Korean ceramics – refined but full of character. The human touch is evident with thumb and finger imprints and hand carved bases. This makes them tactile and comfortable.
Due to firing techniques she has developed some delightful glazes.
‘Yozora’ - matt green moving to brown glaze
The glaze has a matt finish and moves from earth green to a soft brown and surprises you as it pools to a beautiful milky-way sky blue in the bottom of the cup.
(yozora means ‘night sky’ in Japanese and relates to that dark blue in the centre of the cup)
